Todays park review is on
Washington Township Park
Located off of New Route 100 and Niantic Road (across from the Washington Twp. Elementary School).
The Park looked small upon arrival but as I have found out the park has a total of 6.97 acres. Not much of the land was used for the playground, but it has a huge field for playing soccer.
The park has a nice size pavilion available to rent for parties, with at least 20 tables. And the area was nice and clean! Another plus was there are many benches and picnic tables around the play area for sitting, in case the pavilion is occupied. The best was there is a Wheel Chair Accessible Porta-Potty that was clean! Not many parks have this.
The play area I determined is for children ages 5 and up, although they did have small spring horses, and “baby” swings. I took my 16 month old and the swings were too big for him. The rest of the equipment: swings, rock wall, jungle gym, and the zip-line are all for older children. The downside to the play area is that there is no shade. I understand the park was built in 2009, but they didn’t plant many trees that will grow to shade the area, and right now it is wide open.
5 from the 10 year old – He liked the swings.
3 from the 9 year old – He was unsure why, but he said he has been to better parks.
5 from the 7 year old – She loved the horses!
I rate this park a 3 with a plus on cleanliness! There was lots of seating, and a nice choice of equipment. A negative on the fact there is no shade, so this would not be a mid-summer park trip, and the fact that the play area is small compared to the amount of land the park owns.
Overall, a good time was had by all, the older kids played, and as my 16 month old is learning to walk, he had more fun just waddling around and didn't care that the swings were too big for him!
